Ozone Therapy Treatments

Over the past sixty years more than a dozen methods have been developed in the medically therapeutic application of ozone.

One of the most significant international documents produced is the Madrid declaration on Ozone Therapy which details the various recommended routes of application.

Approved at the "International Meeting of Ozone Therapy Schools" held at the Royal Academy of Medicine in Madrid on the 3rd and 4th of June, 2010, under the auspices of the Spanish Association of Medical Professionals in Ozone Therapy (AEPROMO).

In most cases tiny amounts of ozone are added to pure oxygen (consisting of 0.05 parts of ozone to 99.5 parts of oxygen for internal use and 5 parts of ozone to 95 parts of oxygen for external applications). Doses are usually expressed in terms of micrograms of ozone per millilitre of oxygen (ug/ml) for example if a practitioner were to require 1200 micrograms of ozone he or she would select a concentration of 12ug/ml and use a volume of 100 ml of oxygen.

The exact amount of ozone is determined on a case by case basis after a careful medical diagnosis by the practitioner trained in ozone therapy.

Oxygen - Ozone Therapy: A Critical Evaluation
by Velio Bocci, PhD.
Institute of General Physiology, University of Siena, Italy
This book represents the first serious attempt to explain the fundamental basis of ozone therapy and is a relevant step towards achieving further progress. Ozone is now considered a real drug and, after reacting with body fluids, releases messengers and activates several mechanisms which are able to elicit multiple biological effects. The therapeutic window has been defined and, contrary to the dogma that 'ozone is toxic any way you deal with it', it has been shown that ozone toxicity can be tamed and even totally avoided.

This book has been written in a plain scientific language and can be read by scientists and clinicians, as well as by patients keen on regaining a state of well being.
The Oxygen Prescription: The Miracle of Oxidative Therapies
by Nathaniel Altman
The Oxygen Prescription is the only book to place oxidative therapies in the context of holistic health. Completely updated and expanded to include the use of these therapies in dentistry and veterinary medicine, it explores the latest scientific findings that show how ozone interacts with cells when introduced into the bloodstream. It presents treatments that stimulate the body’s own ability to produce ozone to fight cancer, osteoporosis, and hepatitis and provides the evidence of how oxidative therapies are being used to treat heart disease, herpes, HIV, and diabetes.

The Oxygen Prescription also shows how to enhance the effectiveness of these treatments through diet and the use of minerals, herbs, exercise, and visualisation.

Main Application Methods for Ozone

Different therapies require very specific concentrations of Ozone, and the ozone must be given in exact amounts depending on the application methods (too little or too much can be either ineffective or harmful).
  • Hyperbaric (Major/Minor autohaemotherapy)
  • Normobaric (infusion - rectal/urethral/ear)
  • Bag gasing
  • Infusion (rectal/vaginal/urethral/ear)
  • Subcutaneous
  • Sauna/Steam
  • Ozonated olive oil
  • Ozonated water

ug/ml = 1 mg/l = 1g/m3 = 1 gamma - these terms are equal, no conversion is necessary.

Main Application Methods for Ozone

Major Autohemotherapy – LOT: (treatment of the patient's blood outside the body before re-infusion) in geriatrics (age-related conditions), for revitalization, in the treatment of circulatory disorders and virus-produced diseases, and for general immunoactivation by this method, 100 to 200 ml of the patient's own blood is withdrawn in the normal manner, enriched externally with an exactly defined quantity of ozone (with disposable sterile material and containers!). The ozone reacts completely - ie at a rate of 100 % - with specific substances making up the red and white blood cells and thereby activates their vital activities = metabolism. It is this activated blood (not ozone or oxygen!) that is immediately reintroduced into the patient's system using a normal drip unit.

Using the same principle, Minor Autohemotherapy – SOT: is an application, via the intramuscular route, of O3 treated blood for unspecific immunoactivation revitalization: it can be used in allergic diseases or in a general way to improve the body's inherent resistance.
External Treatment is primarily achieved through a closed system using O3 gas fed into special plastic “boots” (for the legs and feet) or bags, foils etc fitting various parts of the body. These are of course made of ozone-resistant materials. The parts of the body treated have previously been moistened with water, as ozone cannot act on dry areas. This method is highly effective in treating ulcers, sores, open wounds, postoperative lesions, shingles (herpes) and infected areas etc. Other forms are ozonized pure water (eg in dental treatments) and ozonized pure medical olive oil (for skin eruptions such as eczemas and conditions involving molds, funguses and lichens etc).
A Subcutaneous Injection is an injection administered into the fatty area just under the skin (as opposed to an intravenous injection, which is administered directly into the bloodstream). These injections are given because there is little blood flow to fatty tissue, and the injected medication is generally absorbed more slowly, sometimes over 24 hours.

O3 gas application via the rectal route is not as inconvenient or unpleasant as it sounds (medically, it is called Insufflation). In fact, the patient feels absolutely nothing, as the O3 gas is directly absorbed by the sensitive intestinal membranes; in addition, the specially designed disposable tube is lubricated, which makes the method totally hygienic - and practical, as a patient can apply it himself/herself. This method is primarily indicated for inflammatory conditions of the intestinal tract, but is finding increasing use for general revitalization processes.
